The History of Pakenham Water Mill
For a thousand years flour has been ground at Pakenham Water Mill.
Mike Dean, the curator, will explain the history of this quiet gem which is so close to Thurston. Mike will reveal how the mill survived the
Norman Conquest, the role played by Henry VIII's agents in preserving the mill and many other key moments in the mill's long history.
The mill is still operating today, run by a group of volunteers.
You will be able to taste bread made from the different flours that are milled.
Bread that has been baked in the wood-fired bread oven: part of the mill's uniquely surviving domestic Georgian kitchen.
Tickets from the library. £5 per person, (including breads!).
Refreshments available (donations welcome).
